Experiencing Perth and its laid back and relaxed lifestyle is easy from one of the many parks located in Perth and surrounding areas. Perth offers visitors a variety of activities to see and do. The region takes in Mandurah, Rockingham and Fremantle to the south, Guilderton to the North and the beautiful Swan Valley to the East.
Fremantle & Rockingham
Oozing with culture, Fremantle is abuzz with shoppers and alfresco diners. Just a 20 minute drive south west of Perth at the mouth of the Swan River, the city is rich with heritage buildings, attractions, maritime history and culture. Fremantle is recognized as the best preserved example of a 19th century port streetscape in the world.
A little further south is the growing town of Rockingham. Known for its’ “Aquatic Playground” Rockingham has a number of calm swimming beaches, visited by dolphins, seals, penguins and numerous bird varieties. The calm waters are a great place for visitors to kayak or snorkel.
Gingin
Located only 83kms north of Perth, Gingin is well known for its amazing contribution to WA's history. As one of the oldest towns in WA Gingin is home to a mesmerizing display of historical buildings.
Gingin is a picturesque township nestled into the valleys of North Perth and a perfect destination for a relaxing day / weekend trip out of the city.
Goomalling
Welcome to the Shire of Goomalling! Situated in the Central Wheatbelt, 132km North East of Perth, Goomalling is a picturesque rural town with modern sporting and recreational facilities. Visitors are always welcome to join the locals and try their hand at driving go-karts, playing football, cricket, golf and many other activities designed to suit all lifestyles, tastes and ages. With a population of 1000 the town boasts a friendly, relaxed and welcoming feel.
Whether you want to get back to nature, experience days gone by at historical Slater Homestead or relax and be pampered, Goomalling is a great getaway.
Guilderton
Guilderton is found 94 km north of Perth on the mouth of the Moore River. Visitors have the choice of indulging in their favorite activities on the Indian Ocean or the sheltered Moore River. The most popular activities include fishing – beach and river; surfing; boating; swimming and canoeing.
Why not stop in at Yanchep National Park on the way to Guilderton from Perth and experience the Park’s koala sanctuary, limestone caves and Aboriginal culture.
Ledge Point
Ledge Point is located an hour and a half north of Perth. Developed as a small commercial rock lobster centre, Ledge Point provides visitors with good fishing and beautiful beaches. The more adventurous can undertake some diving or windsurfing activities.
Divers can head to the wreck of the Dutch Ship, Vergulde Draeck, which went down after striking a reef in 1656. If you are a windsurfing enthusiast then make sure you head to Ledge Point in January for the Annual Windsurfing Classic.
Mandurah & Peel Region
Less than an hour drive south of Perth, Mandurah and the Peel region offer intricate waterways, soothing beaches and native forests. Visitors come from far and wide to fish and crab or simply cruise the Mandurah waterways. The Mandurah foreshore is a pleasant place to enjoy a picnic or barbecue day or night. For those who prefer the foreshore is also home to a number of cafes and restaurants.
Northam
Northam is located on the banks of the Avon River 98km east of Perth. The town with its beautiful setting and population of nearly 7,000 is often used by travellers to explore the Avon Valley region.
To enjoy an aerial view of the picturesque Avon Valley why not undertake one of the sunrise ballooning rides or traverse Australia’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge.
Perth Central & Airport
Basing yourself in the centre of Perth gives you a great opportunity to easily explore all that Perth and the surrounding regions have to offer. Built on the banks of the Swan River Perth is a very scenic city. Visitors to Perth must head to Kings Park and Botannical Gardens to take in the great view of Perth, the Darling Scarp and surrounding areas.
Rottnest Island is located off the coast of Perth and is accessible by a ferry ride from Perth or Fremantle. It is a great place to spend a day or two cycling from bay to bay taking in their crystal clear waters and tranquil surroundings.
Perth Northern Suburbs
Perth’s Northern Suburbs offer easy access into Perth city and some of the most pristine beaches in the world. Known as the “Sunset Coast”, the area has over 50km of magnificent beaches perfect for swimming, surfing, fishing, snorkeling or perhaps a romantic walk. After basking in sun at one of the many beaches why not indulge in shopping at one of the many centres or enjoy the cosmopolitan nightlife and entertainment.
Serpentine
Only thirty minutes southeast of Perth, the Serpentine Jarrahdale district, which includes the towns of Serpentine, Mundijong, Jarrahdale and Byford, offers some of Western Australia's most popular parks, art galleries, restaurants, wineries and wildlife.
Serpentine Falls Park is an attractive picnic spot, with free barbecues and resident kangaroos. Some of the historic buildings house heritage and museum collections, arts and crafts and tea gardens
Swan Valley and the Hills
Internationally renowned for its vineyards and cellar door tastings the Swan Valley region also offers visitors first class dining experiences, boutique breweries, artist studios and galleries.
For those who wish to feel like they are far from civilization the Perth Hills offers a number of bush walking and mountain bike trails as well as scenic drives and views. Mundaring, the “Heart of the Hills” also boasts the Karakamia Wildlife Sanctuary, Chidlow Marsupial Hospital and Hills Forest Discovery Centre.
Toodyay
The charming and historic town of Toodyay located on the Avon River is located 85 km from Perth. There are many historic buildings to visit including Connor’s Mill, built in 1870, which includes a detailed presentation of the life of the local 'hero' Moondyne Joe.
Other great historical sites to visit in one of WA’s oldest towns include the St Stephens Church of England, The Old Goal, Police Stables, The Old Victoria Hotel, Fremason’s (1961) Municipal Hall and Toodyay Public Library.
